Join us on this lace adventure!

lace capelet

This lace capelet appears on the cover of Vogue Knitting Magazine Spring/Summer ‘10, and it is our summer knit along project by popular demand.

We’ll cast on Thursday, June 10th, around 5:30 p.m.  You’ll need #7 and #8 circular needles and Debbie Bliss Prima yarn.  We want to make sure everyone has her favorite color, so dream over the color card and call us with your choice soon: 314-849-9276.

Turning into a techie - or trying!

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Apologies for having been such a poor correspondent this spring.  I’ve been busy knitting on our Nora’s Sweater KAL, and I’ll be posting pictures this weekend. I also hope to take pics of the sweater I’m working on for me in Cotton Supreme Batik from Universal, my Shingle socks, and the mystery shawl knitalong I jumped into.

All that knitting, plus some techie additions. We are now on Facebook and Twitter.  Lynette has started a Hearthstone Knits group on Ravelry, too.  Find us, follow us, knit with us.

New Knit Along Project Begins Feb. 11

Nora’s Sweater Front

Nora’s Sweater from the cover of Interweave Knits Winter ‘09  is our next Knit Along Project.  It is an intricate and gorgeous sweater — coming and going — with cables, lace, and knitted pleats.

Nora’s Sweater Back

We’re recommending Lana D’Oro from Cascade because it feels fabulous and has the perfect drape for this design.  Be sure to hurry in to order your favorite color for this project.

The Knit Along begins on Thursday, February 11, during our regular evening knitting gathering.  We meet from 5:30 or so until the shop closes at 8:00 p.m. There’s no charge for participation, but please use a yarn purchased at HearthStone Knits.

I can’t wait to get started!  Are you coming, too?

Kalahari Tote KAL — Wow!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

tracy-smiling.JPG

The Kalahari Tote Knit Along is really going well.  A few people are almost finished; many are close.  The projects are fantastic!  It’s really interesting to see how different the bags look even if the knitters used the same colorway.  One of the things I love about working with fiber and fiber artists (and, yes, all you knitters are fiber artists!) is how each person’s interpretations change the outcome of the projects.  Each one is truly an individual expression!  I’ll be posting new pics over the course of this week.  Check out our progress.  (Please forgive my photography.  I really haven’t been torturing them during KAL!)

Rainbow Kalarhari Tote

Monday, July 6th, 2009

The Kalahari Tote Knit-Along is progressing really well.  Several knitters are finished or almost finished.  I forgot to take pictures last Thursday — duh…  Fabjacuzzi was kind enough to let me use her photo from her blog.  Don’t you love her rainbow colorway?  Great job!

Kalahari tote group week 2

As you can seen, there was a wide variety of progress this week.  Some folks began last night, and others are forging ahead with a vengeance.  We all agree it’s great fun and super addictive. “Just one more square.  I want to see what the next set of colors looks like.”

Here’s LM’s tote.  She’s the furthest along so far.

Kalahari Tote KAL - Week #1

Friday, June 12th, 2009

At HearthStone Knits we’re doing a Knit Along of the Kalahari Tote (Interweave Press, Summer 2009).  Last night was our first meeting and look what we accomplished!

kalahari week 1

I plan to post pictures every week.  One of our loyal knitters is summering out of town, and she is participating in the Kalahari Knit Along via the net.  (Hi there, S!)  Isn’t that fun!

At long last Noro Kureyon Sock yarn is back in stock!!! We’ve received 5 gorgeous colorways, and we can’t decide what to knit first! If you haven’t had a chance to catch this yarn in person, be sure to check it out. Like it’s older siblings Kureyon and Silk Garden it knits up in wide bands of fabulous colors. Georgia’s Seed Stitch Stripe Socks pattern is free with any purchase of Kureyon Sock yarn. This yarn is hard to resupply, so don’t wait to get your favorite colors.

A new Knit-A-Long begins Thursday evening, May 1st. So many of us have fallen in love with the cute summer cardigan on the cover of Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer ‘08 that we’re going to work on it together. It is knit sideways on the bottom, and the yoke is picked up from the body and worked upward. Although it’s not as confusing as it sounds, many of you wanted company on this knitting journey so we’re all traveling together. This topper comes in finished sizes 37½”, 45″, and 52½” so there’s a size for almost everyone. If you’d like it longer, a couple of us will be lengthening it and will be able to help you make that change. We have several yarns that are perfect for this project including Plymouth’s Jeannee, Berroco’s Linen Jeans, and KFI’s King Tut. As always with our Knit-A-Longs we ask that you use a yarn purchased at our store. Join us 6-8 p.m. beginning Thursday, May 1st, and get started.

Tell us what classes you would like us to offer next. A new round of classes will begin in late May or early June, and we strive to offer the topics you most want. Give us a call, drop us an email, or mention it the next time you’re in the shop. We want to hear from you, and any suggestion is welcome!

Have you checked out the book titles we have on sale?  Many of our in-stock titles are marked down. These make great gifts and a bargain way to stock your own library. Be sure to check it out!

P.S.  Don’t forget to buy your Stitch N Pitch tickets!
