Only because I love you, daughter dear!

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I’ve finished wedding shawl number 2 and moved immediately into wedding shawl 3.  No pictures yet because every second is spent knitting.

Shawl #2 is for Daughter herself to wear.  It’s from Vogue Knitting Magazine last winter.  I’m doing it in Zephyr wool/silk from Fiddlesticks plus 4 tubes of beads.  I’m pretty fast with a beading crochet hook these days!  ;-)

Shawl #3 is for her friend who is acting as her hostess.  It’s lace weight in shades of blue.  The pattern is the Midori Green Shawl from Knitters Summer ‘08 (page 28).  It is my least favorite of the three in color and yarn.  Someone gave me the yarn to try, and I’m not loving it like the others I’ve been working with.  It came from a large mail order company known for its low prices — which is all I’ll say.

What happened to the Peacock Shawl, herein after known as Shawl #1?  It will go to the Maid of Honor, Daughter’s single attendant in this manageably small wedding (I’m not nuts enough to do this for 8 bridesmaids!!!!).  She’s seen it and loves it, but doesn’t know it’s for her.  Surprise!!

Gotta go.  I hear my Addi Turbo Lace needles whispering my name in the dark.  Pictures soon, promise!

Finally!!!  This may have been my worst case of procrastination ever, but HearthStoneKnitsOnline is finally functional.  Yeah!!!!  It may not be beautiful or sophisticated or tech savy, but it’s there.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

I love my Flat Feet!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

We just received our first shipment of Sock of the Month in Flat Feet sock yarn from Conjoined Creations, and I love it!  HearthStone Knits is one of only 50 shops nationwide to participate in the Flat Feet Sock of the Month.  I can’t show it to you until the release date on August 15th, but it is so fun!

Flat Feet are pieces of machine knitted fabric that have been hand dyed, and each Sock of the Month design is unique.  This one has autumn tones, and a symbol you’re sure to recognize.  The designs you see on the knitted fabric will appear as areas of color in the knitted socks, but the symbols won’t show.

You can call now if you’d like to reserve a pair of Flat Feet in this month’s design or want to place a standing order for each edition (9 issues over the next 12 months), just call HearthStone Knits at 314.849.YARN or email us at hearthstoneknits@sbcglobal.net.  Each pair is $25 plus tax.  Don’t miss out!

Being the LYS owner has its privileges, and I’m casting on my pair as soon as I log off!

August 5th is UFO Night

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Grab your UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) and join us at HearthStone Knits from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m on Tuesday, August 5th.  We’ll enjoy each other’s company as we whittle away on those stubborn projects.  Can’t make it this month?  The first Tuesday of every month is UFO Night, so make plans to join us on September 2nd.

P.S.  The shop will be closed from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m.  See you tomorrow!
