Lace and SKULLS?!!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I’ve been busily working on the Leaf Lace Shawl that’s the project for a class I’m teaching at the shop.  It’s going very well, and I’m enjoying it a lot.

At the bottom we’re attaching one bead at the point of each leaf, so I went shopping for beads at my favorite bead store, Lady Bug Beads.  Husband, who is an amateur photographer and has a great eye for color, was with me and helped me look for just the right bead.  My autumn colors proved to be hard to match, but he found one that had a perfect aged-ivory look.  I happily bought what I needed, and off we went.  Sounds like a happy ending, right?

When I was ready to attach them, I turned them over and realized there’s a reason they look like old bone.  They are miniature skulls!!!   Rofl!  Husband wasn’t wearing his glasses, and I have no excuse.  It cracked me up so completely that I’m using them anyway, but facing the eye sockets to the wrong side of the shawl.  Now all those little boneheads will be staring at my backside!

Felting in Progress

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Sherry Duncan, the owner of Wool Around the World, is a member of our Kalahari Tote KAL.  Her company is the wholesale distributor for Wool Pak Yarns and also sells a great portable washer that is perfect for felting.  She’s been kind enough to bring one to HearthStone and felt people’s Kalahari Totes for them.  Here are some pics of Sherry at work with her little “felting machine.”

Kalahari Tote KAL — Wow!

The Kalahari Tote Knit Along is really going well.  A few people are almost finished; many are close.  The projects are fantastic!  It’s really interesting to see how different the bags look even if the knitters used the same colorway.  One of the things I love about working with fiber and fiber artists (and, yes, all you knitters are fiber artists!) is how each person’s interpretations change the outcome of the projects.  Each one is truly an individual expression!  I’ll be posting new pics over the course of this week.  Check out our progress.  (Please forgive my photography.  I really haven’t been torturing them during KAL!)

Rainbow Kalarhari Tote

Monday, July 6th, 2009

The Kalahari Tote Knit-Along is progressing really well.  Several knitters are finished or almost finished.  I forgot to take pictures last Thursday — duh…  Fabjacuzzi was kind enough to let me use her photo from her blog.  Don’t you love her rainbow colorway?  Great job!
